1157392 2010-11-30 00:45:00 Hi all

Trying to share my western digital external hard drive up over a network between 2 computers.
I have the hard drive plugged into a desktop PC and share it with a laptop over a wireless network.

On the laptop I can access the external hard drive but only if I right click it and select open or explore. If i just double click the hard drive network folder it runs a setup from the hard drive. It is the western digital setup. I have tried running the setup to see if it would go away once installed but it will not. Any ideas?

Thanks

1157393 2010-11-30 00:52:00 Did you share a folder on it?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1157394 2010-11-30 00:55:00 I am trying to share the whole hard drive, not just a folder.
I right clicked the 'My Book' icon in My Computer and then clicked share to share the file over the network but then I have the problem I described.

1157395 2010-11-30 00:57:00 right mouse on the hdd then share it. What versions of windows are on these things? And what firewalls are installed if any? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1157396 2010-11-30 00:58:00 Map the drive as a network drive gary67 (56)
1157397 2010-11-30 01:00:00 Yes I have done the right click and share thing.

XP Desktop to Vista Laptop. Just using windows firewalls.

On the Vista Laptop when I go into the network folder I see the HDD there and if I double click it, it will run the Western Digital Setup. I have tried to delete it off the HDD but then when double clicking it from the Laptop it wont open. The only way I can access the HDD on the laptop is by right clicking it under Network and clicking Explore. I want to be able to bypass the Install or Run Program option.

1157401 2010-11-30 01:07:00 Have resorted to sending a shortcut to the desktop and be accessing it from there.
Thanks for the help :)
