1105512 2010-06-01 00:02:00 Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't 16:9 standard now?
It gives a very squashed viewing experience.
I feel the industry would have been better sticking to the older style.

1105513 2010-06-01 00:04:00 Not sure on the ratio but big LCDs are going that way too right? Wide angles ... Nomad (952)

Really?
I prefer 16:9 for my monitor.
I guess it's one of those things you get used to.

1105515 2010-06-01 00:17:00 It's nice to have 2 windows side by side - pretending to be dual monitors. I like to have FF on one side and Outlook on the other.

Some advanced models have a feature that it works like 2 monitors you can drag the browser to the left and the email to the right.

Good for movie watching too which tend to be a rectangle thing.
I think that you do get to see more stuff horizontally - like webpages which some are now wider ....

1105516 2010-06-01 00:19:00 There are still plenty of 16:10 notebooks around, tbh I like 16:9 too. wratterus (105)
1105517 2010-06-01 00:45:00 I have gotten kinda used to the 16:9 ratio, the only issue for me is that I have to do a lot more vertical scrolling to reader stuff. At times that gets annoying but its nice to watch TV episodes in full screen without the 2 black bars on the top and bottom of the screens like you seen in the 16:10 ratio screens. ronyville (10611)
1105518 2010-06-01 01:59:00 High end monitors are still 16:10. They are used for editing all the 16:9 stuff while still having the controls visible.

I prefer 16:10; a computer is primarily made for doing work, gaming and web browsing. If I wanted to watch tv, I'd watch tv! (or at least output to tv).
I prefer the extra vertical space as it means less scrolling and being able to display two pages side by side at a higher magnification (even then, it isn't quite high enough as there is still a lot of wasted horizontal space). Also when I -do- watch tv programs, the player controls when I need them, don't block the image.

1105519 2010-06-01 06:52:00 The laptops are made in Asia - what aspect ratio are their eyes set to?

My favourite Dragon will have a different set-to in mind if I don't watch out.

1105520 2010-06-01 07:02:00 I prefer 16:10, but they will probably be priced out of the consumer market soon. All new products seem to be 16:9 Greven (91)
1105521 2010-06-01 14:21:00 i prefer 16:9 even though the stuff i watch is in 4:3 (benny hill etc..) goodiesguy (15316)
