889350 2010-05-30 08:46:00 Hi, I visited the NZTA site and I can apply for a exemption for a 3 monthly period should I not use my car re: registration. Cool. What happens to the WOF thou? When I choose to use it do I just take it to a garage and get it certified?

Cheers.

889353 2010-05-30 20:32:00 If you have a expired WOF, then you shouldn't be driving the car on the road anyway if you follow the rules to the letter but if you were going direct from your home to the garage to get the WOF done so you can get the Reg renewed, if stopped by police and you can show that is what you are doing, there is a certain degree of discretion that can be given by the officer.

We had one of our cars off the road for a year. Stopped just around the corner after leaving home. Said he would check the status of our car in the system in a couple of days, if the WOF and REg had been done, nothing further would happen, if it han't been done of course...........

889354 2010-05-30 20:44:00 You can still drive the vehicle if its rego is on hold, if the rego still has time to run before expiry.
WOF is common sense you may drive to the testing place and return to a place of repairs detouring to the supermarket and pub wouldnt be cool.
To be sure if you are a worry wort from a pedantic fed you could ring the garage to make an appointment that way there would be something written down.
The law says crime is not displaying a WOF if the car had a WOF and it wasnt displayed its same as not having one. The law is watertight you have two choices no show and **** show.

From LTSA "Make sure your vehicle has a current warrant of fitness or certificate of fitness. You are allowed to drive your vehicle on a road without a current licence if, and only if, you are taking it to get a current warrant of fitness or certificate of fitness. "

If the Registration has been cancelled ie the Licence wasn't renewed within 12 months of it expiring, you have to tow or transport the vehicle until the re-registration process has been completed.
