888911 2010-05-28 21:41:00 Would you also do that to someone employed at a lower or similar level?

Or would you show them the ropes and give em some support until they were up to speed?

And I hate to break it to the haters, Management always look at a bigger picture, and can see limitations and abilities that are pretty much blind to the people on the shop floor, Its usual for all employees to have a bedding in process, if someone decides to make that difficult it will be noted, as well as the capabilities and performance of the new employee.

I don't consider 2 years in the job to be still bedding in, I have run large gangs of builders in the past on multi million dollar jobs so I do know that I can do the job better. Yes I am considering leaving over this issue, it will be their loss as I am very good at my job. I'm just over time wasting ass licking twats with no prior knowledge getting put into positions of junior management and getting to stay there by brown tongueing.

As to Prefects anti English comment what a waste of writing space he uses up. You got the job because you had a boss with brains who recognised you could do the job despite you being anti everything that does not fit your view.

And I don't consider talking to your staff like their idiots when you know less than them helps either

888912 2010-05-28 21:54:00 Good luck being an immigrant and trying to find another job in sleepy ol Nelson.
I would bite the bullet and improve your attitude and stay in the job.
After 6 months of sitting around with no job like a few digger operators I know, you might regret being so rash.

888913 2010-05-28 22:18:00 I've been here 9 years and there's nothing wrong with my attitude. I have lived and worked all around the globe and I have never been out of work not once good trades always have work the not so good don't. Anyone who knows me will tell you i'm easy going so it takes a lot for me to get stirred up. Over the 25 odd years I have been in my trade I have tutored 8 apprentices who have all gone on to be first class tradesmen. gary67 (56)

888916 2010-05-29 05:01:00 Meh, doing my job poorly would result in certain death. No one under me was ever capable of taking my place,or even working without my supervision on the more dangerous tasks, or aware of the bigger picture.

Lets hope your brilliance has paid off.

888918 2010-05-29 06:09:00 It gets better, my printer just went up in smoke WTF it's only 8 years old and should be still going strong. Bugger guess I'll be going shopping tomorrow gary67 (56)
888919 2010-05-29 06:10:00 My friend had an idiot for a boss when nobody from the workshop stepped up to the position so they hired from outside. He didn't last long & when one of the workers did decide to take on the position they turned out to be a great manager.

It is really hard to get rid of somebody who wants to stay, so you have to either help the manager to learn their job or hope they realise they can't do their job & quit.

8 year old printer? I'm not surprised it broke

888920 2010-05-29 06:42:00 The worst I've ever come across was in the construction industry. There was a branch structure reporting to the MD then to the board. Problem was, it was a closely held family concern with no external shareholders. The particular branch manager I speak of was an unmitigated twit, but because Dad was the MD, there was no recourse or workable open door policy.

The said unmitigated twit delighted in sabotaging his underling's work, altering time lines and contracts carefully arranged, to do a knight in shining Armour by appearing at the last moment to save the day by altering everything back again.

Beware of nepotism if you're looking for a job. It just isn't worth the extra agro and family politics.
