If you watch YouTube videos of the Kindle or Sony e-book readers, you'll see that their page turns take a second or two as well. It's an unfortunate limitation of the technology.A couple of seconds is pretty poor performance though - page turns on most good e-ink devices should take less than 700ms or so. I had a play with a Kobo yesterday and noticed the page loading was slow. When I asked about this, I was told it was mimicking a page being turned. :illogicalWhoever told you that was spouting rubbish - the slow page changes are due to the way the technology works. It takes a little while to physically move all the pigment on the screen; that's what causes the wait. |

Naturally I'd only read the articles and not remove the centrefold to pin up. I used to visit a barber for haircuts in the UK simply because he did have Playboy in the waiting room |

Basically, page turn speeds on the Kobo are about average for an e-ink based device - a bit under a second. It seems to be around the same page turning speed as my Sony PRS-505, or maybe a smidgen faster. It may seem distracting at first, but It's surprising how quickly one gets used to the page refresh characteristics of e-ink. Once you start sitting down and actually reading a book on the device, it stops bothering you pretty quickly. You find yourself automatically compensating for the delay by hitting the page-turn button a few words before the end of the line, and the "flash" gives your eyes a chance to rest for a moment and settle at the top of the screen again. |
