| 1157317 | 2010-11-29 08:19:00 | Hello all, I’ve recently gotten a Netbook and elected to have only had the Linux OS installed. I already have a copy of Win7 and intend to install it on the harddrive. The partition that the linux OS is on is only 21MB in size. It goes well, but I’ve no intention of keeping it and will re-install this in the form of Express gate. Win7 has a disk utility called DISK PART, but I’m unfamiliar with the commands to use it. My plan is to use it to resize the active partition to something that will accommodate Win7 and then install it on that partition. I‘ve had a look at the commands, but I’m not familiar with the parameters it gives. Create partition extended [[letter=1]/ [mount=path]][Noerr] I understand only part of this, letter = drive letter? While the mount= path, I have no idea. Extend [size=n][Noerr] Extend as in make bigger, but I’ve no idea of what the denomination is, be it KB or MB. Clarification on both commands would be greatly appreciated. As I see it I have two choices. Resize the active partition and install, or, redesignate the active partition to the other part of the harddrive (its a 250GB, so there’s plenty of square acreage to be had) and then install the OS on the large partition, deal with Linux OS when win7 is installed. To extend a volume, follow these steps: 1 . At a command prompt, type diskpart . exe . 2 . Type list volume to display the existing volumes on the computer . 3 . Type Select volume volume number where volume number is number of the volume that you want to extend . 4 . Type extend [size=n] [disk=n] [noerr] . The following describes the parameters: ◦size=n The space, in megabytes (MB), to add to the current partition . If you do not specify a size, the disk is extended to take up all of the next contiguous unallocated space . ◦disk=n The dynamic disk on which to extend the volume . Space equal to size=n is allocated on the disk . If no disk is specified, the volume is extended on the current disk . ◦noerr For scripting only . When an error is thrown, this parameter specifies that Diskpart continue to process commands as if the error did not occur . Without the noerr parameter, an error causes Diskpart to quit with an error code . 5 . Type exit to quit Diskpart . exe . |
