1158283 2010-12-02 22:32:00 My ASUS P5Q SE/R needs replacing can I use a ASUS P5E VM HDMI in it's place? The only difference I can see are in the North Bridge & the South Bridge.

Cheers

1158284 2010-12-02 22:38:00 You can use anything you want. But whether it'll work (if you dont reinstall windows) is another matter Speedy Gonzales (78)

Is the pc still working?, if so generalise the chipset drivers from device manager before replacing the board.

1158287 2010-12-02 23:48:00 The full story / Problem:

Basically the board is stuffed for reasons that were found on receiving.

The problem is its socket 775, and DDR2 memory, requiring 4 DIMM slots (8GB in total Memory) there are basically no more ATX boards left available as a direct replacement due to being phased out.

The biggest problem is the CPU, its a Q9400, and some boards wont take that CPU, its to large.

The original Board is an ATX, the only thing that available is mATX

I supplied options what my vendors have available and am still waiting a reply,(and NOT on a public forum).

MANY of the boards are not available New from Vendors as they are now obsolete (including that model) Example this shop in Auckland (www.pctown.co.nz) unless maybe on trademe or some other shop has old stock.

Edited: ASUS was requested: This is available and what was offered This one (www.asus.com) its the only one that vendors have that will take the Q9400, and DDR2 RAM, but only 4GB since the Memory chips are 2 GB each.

1158289 2010-12-03 00:26:00 Problems there sol-- only two DDR2 DIMM slots original board has 4.

Its a M-ATX -- which the option was not exactly "liked" and there is no slot for the Asus Xonar D2X Sound Card The Slot circled below the Audio Jacks (www.imagef1.net.nz)

For comparison Original Motherboard (www.asus.com)

Even with the one I suggested, See this picture (www.imagef1.net.nz), due to the size of the Graphic card and the sound card, and the location of the slots there is approx 1mm clearance, its "VERY tight".
