1157635 2010-11-30 22:38:00 Hi

What sort of things do you do before making an image of your primary hard drive?

Just checking so I don't miss anything out.

Thanks.

1157636 2010-11-30 22:46:00 I just clean out temp folders etc with something like CCleaner. The less you do BEFORE taking the image the better. inphinity (7274)
1157637 2010-11-30 22:48:00 Empty recycle bin if you don't need what is there. Do a defrag. Snorkbox (15764)
1157638 2010-12-01 01:12:00 I dont even bother with that. The time saved is usually negligible I've found (personally), so I just straight image with SelfImage and thats all :) Chilling_Silence (9)
1157639 2010-12-01 01:15:00 DO NOT DEFRAG BEFORE THE IMAGE

I assume this is for a HD backup......or similar
If there is an unknown fault on the HD(bad sectors), a defrag can mess things up.
Its rare , but have seen it.

1157640 2010-12-01 08:49:00 Here (download.cnet.com) a little and quick utility which helps cleaning the folders mentioned above.
Have used it for a number of years without failing.
