1107629 2010-06-07 05:19:00 Continuing on from the 30 pin RAM thread.
I decided to share my project with you all. Anyway yesterday I received the pc and to day I upgraded the CD-ROM to A DVD-ROM. AOE 1 is installing now.

Here are the specs as the pc is as of now:
CPU: 66mhz (or higher ie unconfirmed) AMD processor
RAM: 16mb (2x 8mb 30 PIN)
HD: 502mb
Screen: Original Digital CRT

Does anyone think blue neons in the case would be a nice touch?
I also found I could buy 16mb sticks from here (www.memoryx.net)

My Shopping List:
USB PCI Card
Ethernet PCI Card
Video Card (If possible
Sound Card (direct-x 5 or up)
AOE 2
New CPU?
Case Fan

To Do List:
Install 40gb HD

What other things could I add? Any suggestions?

1107630 2010-06-07 05:28:00 AoE2 realistically needs a 166Mhz+ Pentium to be happy. It can play on less but it lags frequently (In my experience back in the day).

RAM will be the other issue, so getting 32MB+ will definitely help :)

1107632 2010-06-07 05:52:00 The BIOS will limit what you can do, eg maybe only 504MB, or 8GB will be recognised.
I have 6 or 7 Intel 486DX100 cpus, and maybe some AMD, you could have, will have a look. Got rid of all my old stuff, including a heap (about 12) of IBM XTs some years ago :)
Video card will be a problem and getting drivers, also ISA cards are rare now.

I also threw away box loads of old motherboard manuals from 386/486 days too:crying, but you really need to get hold of a manual if at all possible, so that you know what cpu and memory options are open to you.

1107633 2010-06-07 09:27:00 A Voodoo card, maybe?

Doesn't look like there is any AGP or PCI-E slots, so I'm looking at ISA which are hard to find.

1107634 2010-06-07 09:59:00 No PCI? (PCI-E is different) KarameaDave (15222)

You can get graphics cards that go in PCI? I thought it was AGP,PCI-E or ISA.

1107636 2010-06-07 10:15:00 A bit of Google says that this machine takes 72 pin fast page ram, not 30 pin. Has at least one PCI slot that has a S3 Trio 1MB video card, and one other slot which would be ISA or PCI.

Yes you can
I have an AMD K6 550
With a PCI S3 savage
connected to it is a VooDoo2
PCI 3d card this gives about 15 MB total
video RAM and 3D 800x600.
