| 1107081 | 2010-06-05 08:38:00 | I just redid my HD. For a bit of fun, I thought what do you install at the start. Apart from drivers and updates, mine are: Windows. Office. Adobe Lightroom (photography) Arobat Anti Virus Download Accel. Mailwasher. |

| 1107083 | 2010-06-05 08:53:00 | I start with a gentoo stage 3 tarball, recompile everything in it for my CPU, and then install the following*: Latest zen (*not* the same thing as xen) kernel reiserfsprogs A syslog daemon A cron daemon screen vim mutt irssi gentoolkit eix layman lvm 2 bridge-utils iptables sipcalc xorg nvidia-drivers nvidia-settings gvim kde4 gkrellm wireshark opera firefox chromium aria2c pidgin calibre amarok digikam gimp lyx openoffice uclibc cross toolchain Everything else gets installed on an as-needed basis when I run into a situation that requires it. *Note that there may be a few items missing from that list - normally I'm better at remembering what I install when I actually do it. I don't redo my main system that often, as Linux isn't self-breaking the way Windows seems to be. |
