1107639 2010-06-07 12:53:00 You can get graphics cards that go in PCI? I thought it was AGP,PCI-E or ISA.

You bet! The first thing I did when I joined trademe was sell a PCI video card.

I'm pretty sure that you can still get them, even fairly decent ones (well, for that system anyway).

Drivers could be an issue. But then again, all of those cards have at least double the RAM of your whole system!

1107640 2010-06-07 22:21:00 I've had 5 PCI cards in a single PC in fact, it was something ridiculous like a Pentium 60Mhz with 128MB RAM.

Those S3 Trio64V+ back in the day were awesome :D

1107641 2010-06-08 06:22:00 A bit of Google says that this machine takes 72 pin fast page ram, not 30 pin. Has at least one PCI slot that has a S3 Trio 1MB video card, and one other slot which would be ISA or PCI.

They also say that it's running a Intel 66mhz. However the CPU said it was AMD on the side when I took it out. But when I was install NFS2:SE :punk it told me I was running a Cyrix proccessor. Also it looks like a CPU upgrade is out of the question as the very small heat sink is stuck to the CPU (actually attached not I can't get it off :banana). That means the mobo doesn't allow you to attach a heat + fan thingy. Also I am still unsure as to the specs of the CPU. Just to top it off the computer only haa one 4 pin thing on the motherboard which is already taken by the speaker that make error sounds.

Also can 72 pin & 30 Pin RAM be easily confused I just assumed it was 30 pin? (hoping for it to be easily confused as 72 is easy to find).

Does anyone know if SIW.exe (www.gtopala.com) can be used on 98?

1107643 2010-06-08 07:02:00 With computers of that era, the heat sinks/fans were attached to the cpu, not via the motherboard, but either bonded on, or via clips that fitted under the edge of the cpu.

So if the board will take it, and this is where the manual comes in, it will most likely accept a 486DX100 cpu, or even a pseudo pentium "overdrive" cpu. I used to know, but the brain cells have faded.

You have to consider whether it is worth trying to attempt converting a sows ear into a silken purse, or whether just to restore the machine to its original state, load up Windows 95, and then sell for a fortune on Trade Me as a valuable collectors item.......starting bid $1000............:banana

Unfortunately I don't know were the manual is or even if its still around. Would I be able to find info using the mobo number? If so were do I find this?

I highly doubt anyone would be willing to pay anywhere near $1000. I could restore it to it's original state (put the original CD drive) and sell it with my still sealed windows 95 disks (complete with manual and silly advertisements for AOL 95) :punk

Do you think If I load it up with enough RAM it would counter the terrible CPU performance when playing AOE?
