1106152 2010-06-02 12:03:00 The only dance/electronica stuff I like is probably Minuit. Not bad for an NZ band. qazwsxokmijn (102)
1106153 2010-06-02 12:28:00 Yes, I agree with that.
Music from 1815 to 1910 - Romantic period - which included Beethoven, Schubert, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, etc. was and still is great stuff.

On Sat night I went to a concert performance of Verdi's Aida in the ChCh Town Hall. The auditorium was full. The Grand March was performed by a full symphony orchestra, a brass band, and a choir of more than 200. No amplification was necessary, believe me.

The thing about this music is that it will still be in vogue in 200 years time when all the modern crap is well and truly forgotten.

Do you not listen to Strauss then? One of my favourite Operettas was Die Fledermouse and what about Gilbert & Sullivan?

I listened to Aida Grand March just today as it happens.

Diction perfect and might I mention Bizet as well?

You correctly ( in my opinion ) state that in about 100 years from now when I guess everyone alive today will possibly be slightly dead or totally dead depending on cryogenics :p

We can only hope that the music and lyrics survive intact by being handed down over several generations for those that like same.

1106154 2010-06-02 12:32:00 I like Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance' and Kanye's 'Welcome to Heartbreak' for some reason - 'Heard 'em Say' isn't too bad either, but aside from those not really my thing.

For most pop artists I can listen to their album and like one or two songs

Ones that I really like though I listen to the whole thing and love every minute of it. Those are the CDs I actually bother buying.

I don't think music is getting worse in general though, I think there is just more of the average stuff to sift through...

1106155 2010-06-02 12:33:00 I think you'll find that most people like the music style they listened to when they were in their teens and twenties. Music after that era in anyone's life, tends to be 'crap' - however some is 'crapper' than others... :)

Judging by your username and declared music tastes, I gather you would fall into the age group of somewhere between 40 and 55... (goodiesguy, that is)

i'm only 14. wow you say. yeah everyone else my age listens to top 40 stuff. i hate it. i prefer 50's and 60's music and have so since about 2003 when i was 7. i got into this music listening to solid gold when i went on drives with my dad. that was the station the radio was tuned to. i love the sound of it. it was, different, spacious, like it had a lot of room. its hard to explain but the sound of 50's and 60's music was amazing when i first heard it.

the first band from that era i got into was The Beach Boys which i had abit prior knowledge. the first song i remember hearing was Good Vibrations. as i said it just had an amazing sound. ever since then i started to hate new music. i like new music until about 2007 when it got really ****. i havent listened to new music since. i just can't stand it (except for the funny american idol auditions eg.. pants on the ground).

my favorite band is Pink Floyd (syd barrett era 1965 to 1968

Funny enough I don't disagree, even though its not a period that I have an interest in.

Though I'd imagine their will be a few (very few) artists from each era that find an appreciative audience in future generations.

Give everything a chance, it'll grow on ya.

The music isn't bad, there has always been bad music, it's just that a majority of the people seems to have a taste so bad that it promotes crap like Lady Gaga... I'd say in 10 years people will say Lady Gaga was awesome compared to what they will have...
That's life...

1106158 2010-06-02 12:51:00 Pop music is all ****.

The end.

There is no room for argument. Their amps did not got to 11, so they all suck.

The BeeGees were awesome!

1106160 2010-06-02 12:57:00 Lady Gaga is easily on par with the commercial rubbish of the 50's, 60's 70's, 80's and 90's, she can be the modern Cyndi Lauper. Half the problem is perception, when people look back to the past they only see what was notable for the time, a lot of the dross has faded away or been filtered out.

Commercial music made for children and simpletons is nothing new, the problem is that now the record companies dominate the artists everything has to be made to one of a half dozen formulas, and anything else they won't touch.

Music hasn't grown in anyway or any direction for quite some time, and it won't until the current corporate regime fails.
