1105918 2010-06-02 04:40:00 U2 System Power supply insufficient
U3 System Wiring check operation not executed
U3 System Mismatch of indoor and outdoor units (Split only)
U4 System Transmission between indoor units
U5 System Transmission to remote controller
U6 System Malfunction transmission outdoor to BP unit

source: www.refrigeration-engineer.com that's pretty much what I quoted in my original post. What I'm now trying to find out is what that actually means in terms of possible causes and remedies.

1105921 2010-06-02 05:15:00 Well, I managed to find a service manual - not exactly for my system, but close enough, I think. It says a U4 error is a system level error that could be:

Faulty outdoor unit PCB. Quite likely, I think
Faulty indoor unit PCB. Unlikely as it is happening to all the units
Indoor unit-outdoor unit signal transmission error due to wiring error. Unlikely as it is not a new installation
Indoor unit-outdoor unit signal transmission error due to disturbed power supply waveform. Who knows, but see number 3
Indoor unit-outdoor unit signal transmission error due to breaking of wire in the connection wires between the indoor and outdoor units (wire No. 3). Possible

It then goes on to specify the problem isolation method, which I'm not qualified to carry out.

So I'm no further forward in terms of actually fixing it, but at least I have some backup info for when the serviceman eventually arrives.

Thanks everyone for the help and pointers.

1105924 2010-06-04 04:52:00 Well, it's good news and bad news. A fuse had blown on the main outside unit, and it is the fan motor that was blowing it. So the fan motor has to be replaced. No price on that yet, but it should be cheaper than a replacement PCB. So it might only cost an arm and half a leg, instead of the whole limb. And I'll be without any heating till probably the end of next week. Time to break out the extra blankets and jerseys, I think. Tony (4941)

1105926 2010-06-04 05:39:00 how do you turn the timer off on daikin heat pumps? our has been set on a timer or something and turns itself off. it used to be fineThere are buttons on the remote. I'm looking at mine now. There is a button with a clock by it which is time of day, and three buttons for the timer. On, off and an up/down rocker switch. Press the on or off, use the rocker to set the time, then on or off again to set it. If it is already set, it should show up on the LCD display. To cancel the on or off time, press on or off to unset it.
