1106786 2010-06-28 07:59:00 I think Martin Devlin is funny, breath of fresh air. NZ is rugby country who cares about his technical skills with a second rate ball game. Humour is the way to go.
And christ isn't it good a person talking about soccer without a grating englander accent?

Sounds like a bit of xenophobia there.
And more people in NZ play 'soccer' than rugby.

and that must make it a first rate ball game.

IMO the poms are the only ones who can commentate on a football match properly, but that doesn't mean I think all of them are good though.

1106789 2010-06-28 09:07:00 It would be nice to not have to have whinging, whining ex South Islanders complaining about everything just because they don't like the rest of the world gary67 (56)

1106791 2010-06-28 11:22:00 You forgot "hung, drawn and slaughtered." It has totally put me off watching the games. Sounds like a swarm of angry bumble bees.

Well done to the All Whites.
Listening to the Vuvu's on TV is at least better than having to put up with them at the games. There's something wrong with having to wear earplugs to a sporting event and took some of the enjoyment out of it for me. Unfortunately they are everywhere - pubs, malls on the way to the games, at the games and afterwards in the streets. I even heard them inside the Joburg airport when I came home on the weekend. I actually think they took the home advantage away from the African nations as its a constant noise so the cheering for the home team was effectively removed.

On the plus side all the fans from different countries really got on well together and you often saw opposing fans get pictures with their opposition. South Africans supported other African nations as well which was nice to see. Everything is football over there - even TV soap operas and adverts have football written into the scripts.

I only hope NZ embraces the Rugby WC next year in the same way. But please, no Vuvu's. :-)

cheers,
Graham

At least the Vuvu's look nicely designed to fit where they belong!

Very wise Zqwert, best not to be too vituperative.

We want good reporting without too much effervescence.
