| 1107877 | 2010-06-13 03:56:00 | Turks mate, they are frightening.! Never go on a bus in Turkey, they overtake whether or not their is a car coming, the only time they don't is if the oncoming vehicle is another bus, or a trunk. Seems like the rule is give way to whoever is bigger!... | SolMiester (139) | ||
| 1107878 | 2010-06-13 04:14:00 | I have never considered NZ drivers that bad compared with overseas drivers except their need to speed. I have for 25 years driven a heavy service truck. I rate my own driving skills as very poor. I am a sort of road rage driver who would rather crash and die than let someone cut me off. I suppose the worst thing I have done is reverse into someone behind me who horned me turning at the intersection of Hobsonville and Luckens road. They got tired of me waiting for a gap in the traffic and thought they could do better. Best thing it didnt cost me a cent the police called into me at work because the clown had admitted using the horn I said the noise stressed me out and I selected the wrong gear. I have taken 2 cars out on Te Atau Road heading to NW motorway when the clowns stay in the right hand going to Te Atatu North but change rapidly to the city lane. i even admit to speeding up to get them as is my right in my lane. Once again theyare in the wrong not me. |

| 1107880 | 2010-06-13 08:47:00 | I second what you said Mikebartnz Comparing our driving in New Zealand to that of places with worse percieved driving than our own is just an excuse not to improve. Its easy to say of well such and such is worse than here yet the challenge is to be better. I learned to drive oi the UK and I have driven in Europe, the longer I drive in New Zealand the more I can feel my standard of courtesy dropping. Most obvious note is the lack of courtesy over here, it happens but very very rarely. Couple examples would be the thank you hand gesture which is quite common in the UK. Driving over single lane bridges back in the UK you would get a thank you gesture or give one no matter whose right of way and get one in return. Over here....do that and its like an insult, drivers focused solely on the tar seal and avoiding any eye contact with the other driver. Funny thing the Tourists in the main are more polite than the average kiwi driver. Another one is driving a Long vehicle HT, Bus trailer etc when you pass another vehicle how often do you see a headlight flash to warn its safe to come on over to the left? oh and the indicator flick a common sign used to say thanks. Three times on Friday driving a Bus for a COF I was overtaken within a couple hundred metres of where the speedlimit went from 70 back to 100kph only to see the vehicles in front slow down a k of so up the road to pull off the road. Poor visibilty overtaking in the spray of a HT just to save a few seconds. Courtesy, patiance and discipline all lacking features in the majority of kiwi motorists. Yet you all know its a problem but not prepared to change just blame someone else or compare with countries with lower standards. Good and consistant Policing is another thing we lack but then thats because of the driving standard learned before becoming Police Officers. They need beeter training as well. |

| 1107882 | 2010-06-13 09:28:00 | . I have for 25 years driven a heavy service truck . I rate my own driving skills as very poor . I am a sort of road rage driver who would rather crash and die than let someone cut me off . I find this quite disturbing that you even allowed a licence let alone a licence that allows you to drive anything weighing over 4 . 5 Tonnes :horrified Although I will say the ability to get a licence for any heavy vehicle especially class 2 in this country is also to easy . Scratch and win sit 6 months on the licence then sit a test or just apply to do a mainly classroom course for a day and there you go a licence to drive 18 tonnes . Then theres the ease to get a passenger licence! Bit of paperwork with answers given a car driving test that can be done in an automatic and bingo a licence to drive buses provided you have also done the above HT course . I guess thats another reason that you cannot exchange a NZ HT licence over in the UK? |
