1158480 2010-12-03 22:32:00 4 x 500GB for 2TB of storage. So 4 times the chance of a hard drive failure, I do hope you back that up somewhere else. gcarmich (10068)
1158481 2010-12-03 23:07:00 Got 2 PCs.. One new and one old. New is for gaming, surfing and the usual. Old PC has 1TB drives that has all my videos and music and files. Sort of like a server but running XP. If I am on my laptop in the living room I can easily access all my sh*t as I do from my desktop. For you I would suggest 2 partitions. C - OS and Apps and D - Data, But do get an external drive if you can to backup the D drive just in case. ronyville (10611)
1158482 2010-12-03 23:16:00 Makes sense to me speedy. I like the idea of a spare partition which is easily affordable
with a 1TB HD. Especially as I have a 1TB external USB drive for data and backup.
Thats probably the way I'll go with this tomorrow.
Thanks to all for a good discussion and sensible advice.................blanco

1158483 2010-12-03 23:48:00 Applications on a separate drive is better for performance

If you have any which can't handle that, then just install them on C:, there won't be many like that.

Similar set up here an old P4 in the garage running XP is used purely for backups of all the other computers in the house. It has one drive with OS a few apps. One drive for data such as pictures and music and a third drive for the backups of the other computers and a backup of the D drive data in that P4 computer
