1109857 2010-06-13 12:49:00 You seperate the two walls manually before you get to that point, Then you rip out the back end, pull the walls individually. That was one of my tasks,My crew would get the building prepped for demo.

It takes a few years experience to be able to gauge how much has to come out to enable the wall to be pulled level but without taking out so much that the wall goes by itself.

If you leave to much then the top of the wall comes in, but the middle of the wall kicks out.

But yeah, that was a nub mistake, The operator should not have been doing that job without direct supervision if he thought that was a cunning plan.

In recent years we would have done that at 2am, with traffic control in place will all traffic stopped, a team of spotters with radios, a spotter (or 2) working as eyes for the excavator operator.and a couple of machines (bobcats) parked on idle to clean up any mess. We have also used telescopic handlers to stop a wall going the wrong way or to push the top inwards.

That again was one of my roles, coordinating all the spotters and clean up, and acting as eyes for the operator.

Great fun, far more enjoyable then fixing computers.

I have some photos that would have you shaking your head for years.

Yeah I thought there would've been a bit more to it that rip, sh*t and bust. Demolition is yet another one of those things we all take for granted; one day a building is there, the next it's gone, but you don't see all the hours of planning and preparation gone into it.

And yeah, would be keen to see some pics (as long as they're not incriminating of anyone!! :p)

And that is the problem, not so much for individuals, but a bunch of photos from 20 or 30 years ago would harm the company image even though standards were slightly different.

1109863 2010-07-14 09:08:00 This was in the early to mid 80's

Thats a 24t bulldozer and a 20t excavator sitting on that building, and the crap is spilling out the lower windows and doorways.
