1159957 2010-12-08 21:52:00 Hi All.

If I were to instal a larger HD alongside the existing one & re-instal XP Home on it, it would be a "Clean" drive. If I Image the old drive across to the new one, I think, I would pass all the old crap as well. Is that right? If so then I would have to re-instal backups, but wouldn't they have old crap on them as well? PJ

1159958 2010-12-08 21:54:00 If you image the drive, you will have all the contents of the source drive. If you do a clean install and then restore backups, you will have whatever was included in the backups. inphinity (7274)

Not a good way to do it.
1)Disconnect old drive. (If you don't XP won't end up being on c: on new drive)
2)Install XP on new drive.
3)Slave old drive back and copy over personal data if it isn't back ed up elsewhere.

Yes, an image transfers exactly what was included in that image. If the image was made after bloat etc, then bloat goes across too.

And the RAM?

How much free space do you have on the current hard drive?

1159964 2010-12-09 03:07:00 Effectively I have one 200 Gig hard drive. I do have two but one is a mirror of the other.

60 Gb free.

With 43.9 free what is the problem?

1159965 2010-12-09 03:48:00 1tb, networked 86 gb free
160gb internal 37.3gb free
500gb eSATA 100gb free

43gb is not a huge amount these days, i'm saving for a 2tb or two 1tb's

Just starting to worry for the future is all. This drive wasn't born yesterday either. PJ
