1110072 2010-06-14 02:43:00 From this ( . stuff . co . nz/national/3809904/Club-maintains-turban-ban" target="_blank">www . stuff . co . nz) article .

Big whoop?

You don't get into most 'club's wearing hoodies, beanies and the like - they ask you to either remove the beanie or take a walk .

Same with shorts - I always wear shorts, don't like long pants - too uncomfortable around the knees . On the odd occasion when I do go to town, I have been told that I'm not allowed into 'x' because I'm wearing shorts .

Who cares? Don't like the dress code rules? Don't go there .

Wonder what would happen if some religious group had something against wearing headgear of any form had some facility where it was banned and a turban wearing individual tried getting in, then wanted rules changed because wearing his turban was of religious importance . . . . oh the folly of stupid 'rules' .

1110073 2010-06-14 02:53:00 If the person is respectable, why not wear what is respectable - even though different. Like when that police politician wore a blouse/skirt in court - of all venues.

I recall it use to be ties in many corporate avenues, but generally I think have been relaxed. So now i guess it's hats or head wear, or hair style...

1110074 2010-06-14 02:58:00 Its a private club and rules are rules. They are only discriminating against hats and headgear not people you arent born with a hat on. So if a Sikh wants a beer in the Cosssie club he should remove his turban.
In the old days if you walked into some bars ie forgot as you walked in the door it was shout the bar or **** off same in mil bars I think ask Rob.

1110075 2010-06-14 03:05:00 Well some clubs are perhaps too private and will never accommodate a representative selection of society's members with their dress code. If so, then why attempt or try to cater to the public? kahawai chaser (3545)
1110076 2010-06-14 03:16:00 Exactly.

Its retarded these days - when one of these 'minority' groups are barred entrance from something they think its an attack on their civil rights and bla bla bla - conveniently forgetting that if any of us turned up wearing a hat we would also be asked to remove it or take a walk...

So is the Cosmopolitan Club due for a name change to Noncomprehensive Club or maybe the Parochial Club.

Uhm. I think wearing a turban is part of their culture rather than religion.

Don't quote me on this though.

1110080 2010-06-14 08:31:00 The geezer has a compulsion to wear a turban - his head, his business.
The club has a rule - their place, their business.

It is a little hard to say whose rights are paramount. (Yeah, right.)
Does he expect to keep his head-warmer on if he nips into a Catholic Church for a bit of wine and crackers?
Can I wear my foil hat (with horns) in his temple?
(I automatically try to adopt the least PC attitude, purely because of some members of the rabid PC brigade I have encountered.)

1110081 2010-06-14 09:15:00 I was in Rome on a bloody hot day with a few hours to spare.
I came upon this huge building called St Peters, an exclusive sort of club like the Cossie Club, I understand.
There were hundreds of people lined up, so I thought there must be something worth seeing, and I joined them
But when I got to the front, they turned me away just because I was wearing shorts.
Never did see what was inside..........
