I am not worried it was just a bit of a wake up call as to how fast weight can go on, when you change your lifestyle I've always wanted to be an All Black! Looks like I qualify - I am 6'2" and 96kg which puts me into the 'overweight' category. KFC here I come! Perhaps those that drink should be denied treatment for liver disease until it's too late? Smokers too? Rugby players would fund their own spinal unit? Cyclists? ...will be treated to all-singing, all-dancing, all-nude (slim) women (or men if that is your preference) and will not be required to pay tax. Free lycra, free bananas and they will have the responsibility for ridding society of idiot drivers by carrying (and using) automatic weapons on all rides. |

We need to start a petition, get people protesting (cos protesting is good), get new laws passed, and create another few thousand pages of red tape. |

If your child behaves badly and destroys public property, do you tell them off by giving them an icecream, knowing that in the long run you'll save on the legal battles from being taken to court? It's got "bad idea" written all over it IMO! Dying from cancer is different from dying from obesity. You can also have insurance that will cover you against the risk of cancer, operations etc. Why should somebody elses taxes have to fund their poor choices? For the vast majority of obese people, it's a choice, or a series of choices at least, usually bad choices. Nobody wakes up in the morning and thinks "Woah damn, where did this all come from, it wasn't here last night", whereas that can be what it's like with cancer. Sure, there are exceptions to the rule, but weight is a condition which is (for the vast majority of the population at least) manageable. Just because somebody chooses not to mow their back yard, or look after it, should not mean the government needs to step in and resolve it. You know that if you let your weeds grow then eventually they're going to need more than just a basic "pulling out of the weeds", but rather long extended treatments and specialists which will cost you money. Just like lapband surgery. |
