1111875 2010-06-21 04:14:00 I've always wondered whether it was used to stop the water from discolouring aluminium pots in the days before stainless steel. It adds to the flavour, anyway, but I use malt vinegar, not white.

My recipe is as follows:

Corned beef
Cold water to cover meat
1 tbsp malt vinegar
1 tbsp golden syrup or brown sugar
1 doz dried cloves
1 bay leaf
1 onion, chopped

Cook for 7-9 hours, depending on the size of the beef.

:drool :drool

Thats pretty much what I did today without vinegar and syrup. Had no syrup so just used the sugar.
I set the slow cooker for 10 hours so at midnight tonight I will be a happy chappy!

You really need the vinegar.

1111879 2010-06-21 05:05:00 Any leftover corned beef makes a great hash. Yum. Personally I prefer my corned beef cold, it makes great sandwiches with really fresh bread and mustard. Yum again.

Sometimes helps first to bring the meat to the boil in a pot on the stove, before putting it into cold water in the crockpot, to remove any excess saltiness. Yes to the brown sugar and the vinegar (balsamic is extra good). :wub

Hmm...

Dust 1x fush fillet in seasoned flour. Pan fry in a butter oil mix.

Serve with home made oven baked potato chips, a light salad and a light alcoholic beverage.

Edit: Fush IS meat to me.
