| 1111875 | 2010-06-21 04:14:00 | I've always wondered whether it was used to stop the water from discolouring aluminium pots in the days before stainless steel. It adds to the flavour, anyway, but I use malt vinegar, not white. My recipe is as follows: Corned beef Cold water to cover meat 1 tbsp malt vinegar 1 tbsp golden syrup or brown sugar 1 doz dried cloves 1 bay leaf 1 onion, chopped Cook for 7-9 hours, depending on the size of the beef. :drool :drool Thats pretty much what I did today without vinegar and syrup. Had no syrup so just used the sugar. I set the slow cooker for 10 hours so at midnight tonight I will be a happy chappy! |

Sometimes helps first to bring the meat to the boil in a pot on the stove, before putting it into cold water in the crockpot, to remove any excess saltiness. Yes to the brown sugar and the vinegar (balsamic is extra good). :wub |

Dust 1x fush fillet in seasoned flour. Pan fry in a butter oil mix. Serve with home made oven baked potato chips, a light salad and a light alcoholic beverage. Edit: Fush IS meat to me. |

Just had an awesome meal, absolutely pigged out, had peppered spuds, roast veges and fried cabbage with a garlic/spring onion/butter mix drizzled on it, Boysenberry ice-cream and cream sponge after . Now sipping a coffee and devouring tim tams before I fall asleep in front of the screen! |
