1160450 2010-12-10 21:02:00 Hi Team

Been using this stick for a year or so in a Fuji J210 camera. I use a card reader to take photos off etc rather than hook up the camera itself as the Fuji software is a bit bloated and complex for such a simple job. I normally copy the files over to my computer for editing, leaving the originals on the card for later archiving.

A few days ago I tried to delete a load of old files and got hit with a 'read only' message. I checked that the lock switch on the card was still off, went though the usual checks for any attributes set to read only, made a fresh back-up of the files and reformatted the card FAT32. I put it back in the camera, re-initialised it using the camera software, took a couple of snaps and you guessed it....they are still read-only.

I checked all of the locations I could think of where attributes for the files on the card might be set, and even tried a DOS attrib -r but that was no help either. I have done an extensive web search but nothing of value has turned up, beyond anything I have already tried. I did find some locations with r present in a greyed-out box but IIRC they were locations that would affect files stored on the computer and I have no problems there. Naturally I have read the Fuji manual as well.

At this point I am stumped! Any fresh ideas out there?

Cheers

1160452 2010-12-10 23:15:00 I heard somewhere that repeated putting of memory cards into slots can wear through the gold covering and hence make the cards unstable. However I don't know whether this is true or not gary67 (56)
1160453 2010-12-11 01:16:00 OK. It didn't respond to increasing the thickness over the write-enable switch but there is a solid imprint oof the actuator on the heavy book repair tape that I placed over it, so I'm pretty sure that the switch is being activated.

I can't dismantle the Reader (Digitech ex Jaycar) without wrecking it completely, but it seems now that there's little point in trying as something else must be wrong.

Cheers
