1110723 2010-06-16 06:05:00 I take it some of you will have received this............

In my case from Contact Energy.

From 1 July 2010, your electricity and/or natural gas prices will increase, as a result of the Government's Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).

The Government has introduced the ETS as part of a range of measures to try to reduce New Zealand's total greenhouse gas emissions.

These price increases will apply to the variable part of your bill - which reflects the actual amount of electricity and/or gas you use. Electricity prices will increase by 0.77 cents per kilowatt hour and gas prices will increase by 0.27 cents per kilowatt hour. These increases exclude GST and are prior to the application of your prompt payment discount.

1110725 2010-06-16 06:30:00 It may be dearer power, but it has an enhanced calorific value. (It's already making your blood boil.) R2x1 (4628)
1110726 2010-06-16 07:19:00 is that a .77 cent or .77 dollar increase? Netsukeninja (13296)
1110727 2010-06-16 07:30:00 Doesn't matter which, it is still the rip off of the century for those the least able to afford to pay. The power companies produce the power, so they should pay, not the sucked in consumers. How is paying more to them going to reduce emissions, when it may just tip those over the edge with their power bills and force them to be disconnected for non payment?

In business the customer always pays.
There was an interesting thing on Fair Go about interest free loans like Hardly Normal do and like I thought they aren't truly interest free.

Just watched that too confirmed what I already thought, didn't realise it was illegal to do a cash deal though if it's lower than the interest free deal

Yes, that is fair. However that doesn't stop you negotiating a discount if you pay cash. You can save heaps by doing this. I got a $3600 oven for $2800 by asking what the best discount deal they could do me for cash was. Otherwise why should cash buyers have to pay the same ticket price amount as the interest free buyers, when the retailer ends up paying the interest for those buyers, thus the cost is a lot more for the retailer.
