1110391 2010-06-15 03:53:00 Why are we doing it?
A bigger 'pipe' to my house
will not make me want
to spend extra on Internet access.
Quite the opposite, in fact.

1110392 2010-06-15 04:06:00 The thing i want to point out is per head it is a lot more money going into their infrastructure than NZ (no surprises there...) but is the 1.5 bil just the govt contribution, what is the total going to be??

What happened to your old avatar Kdave ?

1110393 2010-06-15 04:43:00 Is that AUD$43 billion JUST the Governments investment into their rollout though? Chilling_Silence (9)

Just felt like a change.
Probably change back at some stage.

1110395 2010-06-15 22:08:00 Yes it was AUD 43 billion on the telly while i was there, not sure if it was the total or just the govt contribution

Also they subsidise motorsport 75% from the govt, the reason i went was to watch a motorsport event

1110397 2010-06-16 02:19:00 100Mbit Fiber is nice but total overkill.

I would much rather have 24Mbit ADSL2+ with a 200GB cap for $30

1110398 2010-06-16 02:30:00 Silly article quotes 35m/bit minimum required for HD streaming video.

AFAIK Bluray has a maximum bit-rate of 40 mbps while HD DVD offers a maximum of 28 mbps. I'm under the impression most Full HD streams are ~18 -> 20mbps?

IIRC most streaming services offer 720p between 2.5 and 5m/bit?
