1160548 2010-12-11 01:12:00 i hooked up my friends new pc last night and was running mint. This morning she calls me saying the pc was shutting down after a few seconds.
I opened it up to check for fluff etc and found that little retainer thing on the cpu was loose,I then seen a tab on the plastic base plate had broken off.I rang PB tech and they said it would cost up to $100 to fix.
Where do you guys go for those kind of parts?

1160549 2010-12-11 01:28:00 Is the retainer bit you're talking about on the mobo or the CPU?? If its on the CPU only, replace the CPU fan. If its on the mobo

You could try ringing Tech Master Ltd (they've got something to do with ASUS)

Hotline: 0800-278-788 & 0800-278-778.
Service Hours: 09:00-17:00 (Monday- Friday).

1160550 2010-12-11 01:40:00 its the base plate which is already on the motherboard when you buy it,where cpu sits in.It has 2 tabs for that clip which holds everything down.Hope that makes sense. sk69ersnz (13476)

1160552 2010-12-11 01:47:00 You could try your local PC shop. They may have spares lying around from old mobos Speedy Gonzales (78)

1160554 2010-12-11 03:06:00 Can't you get a new baseplate under warranty? You said it was a new PC... Agent_24 (57)

Nope. It's physical damage. Warranty doesn't cover that.

Try Techmaster, they may help.

It's the black plastic thing that the heatsink sits in.
