1113254 2010-06-24 23:47:00 Park a speed detection device at the side of the road and send out tickets of $30 for every car caught 1 kph above that limit.

A speedcamera in the Central North Island is reported to have recorded in a 4 1/2 hour shift 2000 cars or which 200 of them were ticketed for speeds exceeding the speedlimit by 1kph. That is 1 in 10 vehicles.

Police are reported to be using a silver 2008 Hyundai H1 van with the ski season about to get fully underway that van is going to net several hundred thousand dollars this winter.

Nice little earner and they say it is not revenue gathering???

1113256 2010-06-25 00:50:00 Anyone who travels to the mountain from Auckland and uses the Ngaruawahia-Pirongia road knows well that ski season = open season for the boys in blue with a quota for speeding tickets. Especially on a Friday night and Sunday afternoon, which are the prime travelling times for weekend skiers... johcar (6283)
1113257 2010-06-25 00:56:00 Perhaps people may learn not to exceed the speed limit then? Sweep (90)
1113258 2010-06-25 01:01:00 Let's hope they are revenue gathering and chasing the ski set is a pretty good place to start - will help pay for the tax cuts.

It is more likely to be misinformation from the Police to stop people speeding, but at least that will help keep the road toll down.

1113259 2010-06-25 01:01:00 Won't the camera would run out of film (if used)? Or do the camera's upload images somehow like traffic cam's... kahawai chaser (3545)
1113260 2010-06-25 01:06:00 Great to slow down the speed freaks on the Ngaruawahia - Pironga stretch. I travel there regularly and regularly get harrassed - the 0.5 cecond rule - by skiers at the weekend! Fishb8 (484)

I'm fairly sure that they're digital nowadays.

I have a solution to getting ticketed by a speed camera:
Dont speed
If you want to speed and risk a ticket its your right but dont whimper like a green MP trying to get his flag back.
People that say its revenue gathering need to man up and stop being selfish. These people only thing about themselves other people are irrelevant to them they just dont care.
