1112729 2010-06-23 05:24:00 Hi Guys

My daughter is thinking of getting a T stick so she can use her laptop to check her email and do her Facebook etc.

She is in a remote area so can't get broadband.

We are wanting to hear from anyone that has had one for a while to see if the costs are palatable. It is a prepay, but will $20 last for a few days or a month etc ?

She will not be doing any downloading of movies or songs etc.

(And she will be playing any word association games !)

It is going to depend is it not? If she is going to play word association games as you say then it might last a couple of days.

Checking Email and downloading all the spam along with 35 meg photos that her friends send?

Also noted that your thread title may be wrong.
Was the Laptop an heirloom?

What is palatable in so far as what the budget allows?

1112732 2010-06-23 07:35:00 The Vodofone stick I use on my lappy costs $69/month for 3Gig, I have never used more than 2.75 gig and I do a lot of downloading. I am very impressed with the stick as long as it is within range of reasonable signal strength, if it says the signal is poor or very poor then you get annoying drop outs. zqwerty (97)

Whereas a customer of mine in rural land got one against my advice and got a $3000 bill the first month.
Managed to get out of most of it by claiming malware but he keeps getting not as bad but disgustingly hih bills.

He doesn't download, but he does view facebooks, pictures and so on on the net.

Coverage sucks, it drops out a lot. He decided he hated it but got stuck with the contract so has to wait a while before the escape fee is down to something he can accept.

1112735 2010-06-23 09:56:00 We have a dozen or so in circulation at work, which we take home if we need them for work purposes. Performance on the XT network is fantastic (speeds are comparable to ADSL1), and it's reasonably affordable on our corporate plan.

If all she does is email and basic Facebook stuff, then she could probably cope (just) on the $29.95/month plan - that assumes she doesn't watch Youtube videos, videos people post to Facebook, download music from online music stores, etc etc.

1112736 2010-06-23 11:26:00 the dreaded windows update. some of the stuff don't even tell you how big like windows udpates when you get MSN Messenger. 500kB something yeah right - that's just the starter.

if you really manage it, then sure.
