And to be fair every vehicle must be on the same playing field. Our speedos must be exact to the same specifications as police equipment. Otherwise they could be wrong, you could be intentionally speeding while actually not.

Is worse to intentionally speed and not get caught or is it worse to unintentionally speed and get caught?
Something has to be done, so all are treated fairly. Otherwise rules make no sense at all.

1113295 2010-06-25 05:06:00 Perhaps alternatives penalties or processes, other than just fines, should be investigated.

I'd have to agree here.
I think that its time to start make bad drivers re-sit their drivers license (within say 4 weeks)
That is such an inconvenience it would have a much bigger impact than a fine.
It would send a clear messasge: you are considered a bad/unskilled driver.
It would also make the degree of punishment equal for those who can & cant afford to just pay up.

Same for drivers involved in minor prangs, using cellphones while driving, following too close, using disabled car parks & running Red lights etc etc

1113296 2010-06-25 05:07:00 Maybe so just goes to prove how common it happens!

Does not prove though that those caught were or do deliberatly travel above the speedlimit on the entire journey. I wonder how many of those caught had accident free records?

We will never know will we how many people have accident free records.

I have had two minor dings.

The first in Australia when I was stopped at a red traffic light and a person mounted the median concrete to get around me because he was in a hurry. He paid for the replacement of my righthand tail light. He was not speeding.

The second was entirely my fault when backing up a truck and trailer unit on a farm and collected a fence post with my left front mudguard.

1113297 2010-06-25 05:17:00 Who cares if the skiers get caught, it'll pay for the broken legs/backs/hips and search and rescue that half those dickheads need.

Neither do I because it means one less mess to clean up when they take a corner to fast, fall asleep at the wheel or simply do not apreciate the effect that ice can make on ones steering. Skiers/Boarders have one focus and thats to get to the white stuff as quick as they can before it gets tracked out or melts.

Any related to speeding? Oh thats right you dont speed yet you are accident prone.

1113300 2010-06-25 05:21:00 as sweep noted earlier about speed target/limit or similar - perhaps introduce a graduated penalty based on speed ranges over the limit, in addition to resit licenses (or partial test). kahawai chaser (3545)

What a stupid statement. Sweep's admitted to 1 mistake and you're coming to conclusions without knowing how many years and what distance travelled.

You can't do anything against people who don't know they are speeding.
Say I drive past a speed camera at 120, with my speedo doing 100.
A month later when I do get my ticket, I will think "damn, I was probably speeding." and I'd pay it. There is no way for me to prove or know that I was speeding at the time.

^Sweep, done for seatbelts?
I guess you would have been snapped by a cop? That's different. There is a big difference between getting snapped then and there by a human being than getting a mail three weeks later, don't you think?

Heres where I agree with you and this is the point thats got to come across that the random motorist caught for what may just be the one and only time on that journey or day they exceeded the speedlimit for the briefest time they get stung.

More focus is needed on the drivers who blatently float the law and lack the ability to control a vehicle.

My driving focus was taught to drive responsibly and thats my ongoing focus! Cellphone distraction was until the law passed as being acceptable even now people (mainly employers)expect me to answer my phone while drivng to which I have said I will not do. The challenge to keep the correct distance by counting off those two seconds is an art that people have commented on to me. I dont take chances yet because one accidently drifts over the speedlimit for a brief period you are automatically labelled a reckless driver. :badpc:
