When you get it, can you advise back re battery life? Am quite interested - because I originally looked at this model - but eventually decided on the 1005PE. I travel internationally, and for work - the 11-14 hour battery life was just too good to miss.

Having never used a netbook before, I now find this little sucker perfect. I've installed Debian with the KDE-netbook DE, and it's really good.

Will be really interested to hear how you get on with yours when it arrives.

1113761 2010-06-27 03:44:00 I am expecting no more than 3 hours under normal operating conditions (Wifi on)
based on some of the reading I did prior to choosing.
Longer would be better, of course, but the ability to multitask smoothly
and to run Photoshop are important to me.
I will probably try PClinuxOS or Mint
(or both to test it out)

1113762 2010-06-27 04:16:00 Yes, auctions are covered under the CGA if the seller you purchase from is a dealer (which in this case it is).

They are definately covered if you use 'Buy Now' and don't go through the auction process. I think if you buy it through the auction process, it is more difficult, but I think they are going to be changing the legislation so the CGA applies to auctions. If they are a good company, they would honour the CGA on an auction anyway.

1113766 2010-06-30 00:38:00 Some of the early Asus eee netbooks come with Xandros Linux
Dell sell some with Ubuntu, but not sure if available here.

Can you post back on experience with PCLOS and /or Mint with the 1201N? I'm running Debian Squeeze on the 1005PE - and so far it's really good. Everything set-up including Skype. Virtually everything worked OOTB.

this site covers the issue with Ubuntu

I was aware of this issue before buying it
it is not a biggie.
I won't get time to install Linux for a week or two
as we are heading to our Karamea place for some R&R
you know...lawn mowing, cleaning, fixing the water supply
all those restful holiday activities!! :D
