1111899 2010-06-21 05:21:00 when have headphones been considered a consumable.

Did you consume them? :horrified

I would have fought that argument.

1111900 2010-06-21 05:25:00 They also say it excludes consumables, but they don't specify what the defination of consumables is. I was told that headphones are considered consumables, and they wouldn't cover me, but when have headphones been considered a consumable.

The keyboard and mouse are considered consumable in some I've seen.

1111901 2010-06-21 05:25:00 Yes, but that would all be covered by the CGA, unless you purchased it for business use. The manufactures warrenty is irrelevent really except for business buyers, as they can't contract out of the CGA

Thats what gets my goat, They are selling something they are legally obliged to provide, and then they try and deny the law.

Scum.

I hate to ask for more laws but the government should make it so Extended warranties kick in only after the item is no longer covered by the CGA.And that you can't even be charged for the warranty until five years after the purchase is made.

I think extended warranties should only apply to business customers, and it should be illegal for them to be sold for personal customers, less they are extending the warrenty beyond what would be considered the reasonable life of the product. From what I have seen , they are just snake oil, because they don't provide any more protection than the CGA, and in some cases they actually provide less protection.

I did, and after much effort the retailer gave me some new headphones, but they weren't covered by the extended warranty company that I purchased. Thats why I wouldn't buy another EW

Ironically my own keyboard and mouse have lasted a lot longer than my computer, both are over 5 years old.

1111905 2010-06-21 09:22:00 Same here. My keyboard is about 10 years old. I like the white ones cos I can see the digits. I'm no touch typist Phil B (648)
1111906 2010-06-21 10:06:00 The margin of profit on an extended warranty for the likes of Harvey Norman et al is enormous - often a greater margin than the item itself by several hundred percent. It's easy money for them as it is very easy to prey on a customer's lack of confidence in technology and lack of knowledge of consumer law.

The underwriters of the policy are playing a numbers game - sure, there will probably be some payouts, but the bulk of the premiums charged go straight to the bottom line of that company: pure profit. But then, that's insurance anyway isn't it?

1111907 2010-06-21 10:13:00 I wanted to try the touch typist deal, but she threatened to deck me, and the Dragon was a bit restive as well. R2x1 (4628)
