1162095 2010-12-16 01:06:00 Ok so I need your advice on this. I'm purchasing from computerlounge, and I was originally going to get the EVGA NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX460 SUPERCLOCKED 1GB EE GDDR5 PCI-E (www.computerlounge.co.nz), but they are out of stock, and they recommended the ASUS GEFORCE ENGTX460 DIRECTCU TOP 1GB DDR5 PCI-E (www.computerlounge.co.nz). I will be mainly using for Adobe CS5 and some odd gaming every now and then (halo). What do you suggest I should go for?

Thanks in advance.

1162096 2010-12-16 01:08:00 The Asus is probably a more solid card anyway, it's the one I'd go for out of those two. wratterus (105)
1162097 2010-12-16 01:14:00 Very little difference between the two as both of them use the nVidia reference design. DeSade (984)
1162098 2010-12-16 01:16:00 I too would get the Asus. Snorkbox (15764)

1162100 2010-12-16 03:05:00 EVGA is the more recoginised GPU brand internationally (not in this forum),
Looking at that pick that Asus does not appear to fully vent externally which I hate. I might be wrong but if correct id be choosing the EVGA.

Yeah, i agree, the air for the ASUS will stay in the case, the EVGA is vented out the rear!

1162102 2010-12-16 03:29:00 That is a very good point in this case. wratterus (105)
1162103 2010-12-16 04:18:00 EVGA is a pretty solid brand.....CL won't generally stock unreliable brands. They dropped XFX when XFX started giving then and other people shizz all around the world. qazwsxokmijn (102)
1162104 2010-12-16 07:57:00 The Asus option is a very solid card. Both brands have tremendous reputations internationally. Both are slight variations on the nVidia reference board, though the eVGA card does exhaust out the rear, whereas the Asus exhausts primarily into the case. If you have a decent airflow setup, it's not an issue.

I suspect the Asus' will have a longer warranty - a lot of the eVGA SC editions I've seen lately only come with a 2year warranty, Asus leave their standard 3 year even on their top-OCd cards.

The Asus card is slightly quicker - though unless you do a lot of performance testing, you're unlikely to be able to tell.

Honestly, either would be a great choice, and given they look to be the same price, I'd pick whichever is in stock. If they're the same price, adn both in stock, I'd go Asus. While it's not an external exhaust cooler, I believe it to be a superior cooler design, and Asus' binning procedure is more likely to leave you with a higher quality OC yield. This is Asus' highest-end 460 product, whereas it is NOT eVGAs - so the better quality GPUs end up binned in the higher-end products (such as the FTW edition).
