Yes you certainly knew when Avast found something suspicious. Everyone knew when my computer had a virus. Bit like Star Wars. Scary for older people though.

1161937 2010-12-16 05:54:00 Yes, on a few PC's. I stopped after a Vista PC was ground to a halt by it.

A Vista PC with 512 Meg RAM or less perhaps?

1161938 2010-12-16 06:49:00 I had a laptop with Vista and 512mb on it the other day. The person wanted to know why it was so slow. She wasnt kidding lol. Even if you kill the eye candy, it made no diff.

And you'll be lucky if MSSE installs. It would take an hr just to get the mouse on the install file. Every move of the mouse made it freeze. So I wiped the lot, and put XP on it.

1161939 2010-12-16 07:29:00 For the Security Essentials v2 beta:

As far as I know anyone can register for Connect (free) and then join the Security Essentials public beta to download it . The latest beta update has an adjustable CPU throttle in the Settings (default at 50%) .

1161941 2010-12-16 21:11:00 Version 2 of MSSE is out now (www.microsoft.com). Doesnt look like it appears in windowsupdate yet. Not too sure if you have to uninstall betas if you use them. But it looks like you can install over 1.x. If you decide to download diff versions for different OS's remember to make a folder/s first. Then download the file/s. Since all the different files for x86 and x64 have the same name Speedy Gonzales (78)

Ha, nice try :)
Even a quick google will show how widespread this high cpu usage bug was... not on every PC of course
I just wanted to know if it was ever resolved.

1161943 2010-12-16 21:56:00 Oh well. All I can say is that it works fine on the PCs I've installed it on. Snorkbox (15764)
1161944 2010-12-16 22:55:00 Just upgraded one XP and one win7 64bit and so far still chugging along nicely. It even picked up something on my flash drive that the previous version missed. Nothing serious though gary67 (56)
