| 1115191 | 2010-07-02 00:50:00 | If politicians actually did what they are supposed to ... First and foremost they have to run the country, and much like a business, If you give control over to the workers (like say a union) then that road only leads to backruptcy and collapse. |

It is true that this group of people pay the most taxes and the Govt has to look after them so that they can pay more taxes in return. However, it's also true that this higher income group don't work as hard as the lower income citizens (majority of N Zealanders). The lower income group actually work 2 or 3 times (or even higher) harder than those higher income group. What I'm trying to say is, this Govt is working for the higher income group of people. If they keep on doing like they are now, how long can they last? |

Good point - and I will agree that there are many decisions that should be made by some people that do not require input from the population. However on many other matters that get pushed through from time to time (anti-smacking, greenhouse emissions, etc etc) well shouldn't they be consulting the people of NZ and take their opinions into consideration... after all thats who its going to be affecting. |

I agree. But. We are a bunch of push overs. In some other countries when people don't like the new law they take to the streets in large numbers until its revoked, and if its not they collapse the Government. France and Italy are prime examples. In NZ we do **** all. The Government is not interested because we don't make it so they have to be interested. They only can do what we allow them to do, and we continue to allow them to do it. |
