1114974 2010-07-01 06:53:00 untill you drive down the paddock and that heavy weight sinks into the mud, or try to get through a standard gateway while going sideways in the mud at the same time :D i know a few guys here with them and they have had to tow them out with the hilux/rodeo etc. power and size isn't everything.

Take a bit of a twat to import a big American beast for a huge amount of cash and use it as a farm truck.

Hell, Even my Hilux is too flash to be used on a farm.

theres a few of the older ones still doing farm dutys. i think theres a builder locally that has a quite good dual rear axle one (lift up lazy axle) which would come in handy for big loads. most of the ones i know of are simply used as tow vehicles.
but yes, most are imported just for the bling factor.

no problem using brand new hilux etc on the farm, thats what they are there for. they are cheap compared to the farm tractor.

1114976 2010-07-01 08:59:00 Bling aside, They are quality wagons with massive amounts of power.

I personally wouldn't consider farm gates as a worthy criteria for judging wagons. Which is why I would never compare a farm spec hilux with a yank truck.

1114977 2010-07-01 09:29:00 farm gates is a very real criteria, the vehicle that gets wrapped up around the gate posts you throw out and buy a real ute ;)
one thats small enough to actually FIT !

we have the same problem at work, hilux sized vehicles only just scrapes through some of the places. a lot of places are only built for a certain sized vehicles.

1114978 2010-07-01 09:45:00 Indeed, important criteria for farmers, That however doesn't make a Hilux superior, Any more then it does for a small white tradesmans van. Metla (12)
1114979 2010-07-01 11:05:00 all depends if you want a remuera tractor or a real ute :) tweak'e (69)
1114980 2010-07-01 11:10:00 Whats a remuera? Metla (12)
1114981 2010-07-01 11:12:00 Seriously, You're going from one extreme to another to justify your bias. Metla (12)
1114982 2010-07-01 11:40:00 end of the day, the guys i know with the yank tanks prefer the smaller utes because the yank tanks get stuck easier than the smaller utes. even in a simple paddock and they go get the hilux (or whatever) and drive down the same paddock and pull it out. they literally run rings around the big utes. they are just to big and heavy.

anyway back on topic, someone reminded me that toyotas landcruiser ute is 151kW of power and 430Nm of torque. so nissan have really stuffed up their advertising, you can buy more powerfull utes even in NZ.

1114983 2010-07-01 15:06:00 Legally, its called a "puff" or a "mere puff" and the reason companies are allowed to say such things as "Best in the world" or "the most powerful ute in the world" is that people know that its an exaggeration and a lie. beeswax34 (63)
