1162105 2010-12-16 01:23:00 We moved house about two weeks ago, and have stayed on Slingshot. At the old house, we had very good internet speeds, at least compared to what they are now. from the day we moved in, the internet has been very slow. Not as slow as dial-up, but downloading and streaming content is unbearably. Speeds have been as slow as 1kb/s on my iPod touch, and not much faster on the computer (about 10-15m mins to load a normal, 3-min long youtube video). These are Speedtest.net results:

I have been able to get speeds of 8mb/s at my old house.

We're heading to Australia on Sunday, and would like to get this sorted before then. Is there anything I could do without braving Slingshot's customer service call-centre?

1162107 2010-12-16 04:26:00 Yeah as Snorkbox mentioned, change ISP's, then you don't have to do any talking to them at all! :D Chilling_Silence (9)
1162108 2010-12-16 05:10:00 If your changing ISP's go for telecom or orcon, whoever best suit your needs. The Error Guy (14052)

I would like to dump Slingshot as speeds have deteriorated.
Surprised you mention Telecom as I thought no PF1 would recommend them. Orcon is a possibility for me, so will look at their prices.

1162111 2010-12-17 21:44:00 You could argue your way outta that because of their horrible service / speeds? Chilling_Silence (9)
1162112 2010-12-18 06:48:00 There's no point in changing ISPs if the slow speed is caused by your house wiring etc.

What does your modem say your line rate is and what sort of speeds do your neighbours get?

Telecom's broadband service is actually very good - and since their pricing restructure, they are competitive (but not the leader) in value. However, they're still a prick of a company, so some will avoid them on principle.
