| 1115039 | 2010-07-01 07:56:00 | I had a chat with a fellow student, he got a IT job that pays $35k . Does that sound a bit low? Back in my earlier years, a temping call centre operator got paid $30k - that was in 2003 . 2006 an administrator I was paid $40k doing mostly photocopying and collating of stuff for an audit . Today, a lot of office administrators can be paid up to $50k or more . I heard his girlfriend who has a degree in Finance got paid $35k too? An entry position in a govt department and probably with a larger private company should be on a similar rate . AFAIK they have entry positions of maybe $45k . I know someone who was paid only late thirties was asked for a salary expectation, she said late thirties, they turned around and gave her $45k lol . . . Then . Maybe I could go back into business analyst but more into spreadsheet and databases at least it is semi connected to my past work experience . . . . Nowdays, I find that maybe IT is more fun at home, in a work environment, it's if it's not broke don't fix it, it's just supporting the organisation so it achieve it's corporate goals . IT is just their chisel and shovel . It's like cars, most customers just wants to drop it in, want it dealt to quickly and cheaply so they can get back on the road . Drop it off before work and wants to pick it up after work so they drive home . Only the minority would request modifications . It's not like you would be playing games or overclocking, water cooling a worker's computer . |

My friend is a graphic designer & she found that even qualified & experienced designers all round the country were earning less than $45000 per year. |

| 1115041 | 2010-07-01 09:04:00 | 35k-- I wish ---- The employee pay maybe that (or there abouts),but the actual charge out rate will be higher. | wainuitech (129) | ||
| 1115042 | 2010-07-01 09:08:00 | It depends a lot on what sort of role it is, but starting salaries between $35k and $45k are normal, and will vary depending on your abilities, qualifications, experience (i.e. previous work experience), etc etc. | somebody (208) | ||
| 1115043 | 2010-07-01 09:28:00 | I'd rather have *A* job for $30,000 than *NO* job because I insisted on $40,000. | Sweep (90) | ||

| 1115045 | 2010-07-01 11:40:00 | office admin for $50k!! That is really high. What city is that in? In Christchurch, software developers starting out (depending on the company) can start from high 30s to as high as 50k with little experience. and it is probably more stressful (but no less important) than photocopying and collating documents. Sometimes if it is close to a release date, we have to go in on weekends for no extra pay :o |

| 1115046 | 2010-07-01 15:05:00 | Accounting/finance can easily start at 45k+ atleast in Auckland. | beeswax34 (63) | ||
| 1115047 | 2010-07-01 20:55:00 | Helpdesk at Iinet pays $37K. At Orcon $35K. At Vodafone $18 per hour, at Salmat $16 per hour. Shop techs would get less. Specialist are another matter and of course experience increases the pay too. Admin well I've seen them vary from $30K to $50, depends on what you do and the company. Big corporates pay the most. |

Just a temping or fixed term contract by the recruitment agency. Team Administrator, Project Administrator, Records Administrator. You should have 1 or 2 year of "general" office experience. You may be going to meetings with managers and taking notes and writing minutes out and agendas etc .. putting together meeting packs to members etc. If you are in a small project that might mean just a few people.. Overtime without extra pay? I guess it is you need to get the job done so it becomes more a lifestyle. Technically you can get overtime pay but generally people don't request that. Indirectly they may get a performance pay out. So you do get those who meet up to the pub or dinner after work together and maybe even into the weekends :D oh correction, as the admin i only did our small team mins and agendas, not the committee stuff well i had to do them too when the coordinator left but she was paid at 60k :D but since i've moved away from admin into analysis. maybe i could do more data analysis instead of real IT if the pay starts so low again or maybe a bit higher at 50k ish given whatever my work history. |
