| 1116808 | 2010-07-07 05:54:00 | Hate to link to another NZ forum....but this (www.geekzone.co.nz) FAQ is very helpful. ;) The XT Network is a 3G WCDMA network. Telecom New Zealand is using the 850MHz band wherever they have coverage, with some 2100MHz cell sites for infill - it can be used in some areas if overload happens for example. Example - the new Nokia X6 - awesome phone...but here is a list of the operating frequencies. Operating frequency * WCDMA 900/1900/2100, GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 * GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 (Latin America and Brazil variant only) * WCDMA 900/1900/2100, GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, 2G QB (China variant) It will do WCDMA 2100MHz, so it will work in some areas in some larger cities, but not in most places. But it does 850MHz I hear you say, it should work! Not true - it does GSM 850MHz - not WCDMA. When you are looking at phone specs the phone needs to be able to do WCDMA/HSPA/HSDPA/HSUPA (All basically different names for the same thing, without getting too techincal) 850MHz/2100MHz for it to be fully compatible on the XT network. You could get away with just 850MHz, but it would be better to go the full monty. |
