1116277 2010-07-05 15:06:00 This forum started as PressF1 being a computer help forum but then we got two forums being PressF1 and ChatF1 as there seemed to be too many "Off topic" threads brought up in PressF1 so we got ChatF1. Later came ImageF1, FAQF1 etc and some members including myself donate toward these domain names and do so as it allows uploading screen shots etc which the original did not.

Later in ChatF1 we could bring up pretty much anything we wanted and even got to the point where we could have a structured debate if anyone wanted to debate an issue. Sadly some people joined a team and then dropped out for various reasons.

In PressF1, lately, I have noticed various members posting opinion without backing same up with fact and please note that I am not pointing the finger at any Member(s) in particular by saying this. But I would say that if a question is posted in PressF1 and then several others give conflicting opinions as to which is best then I have to ask what is the OP to believe?

This post was mainly prompted by the fact that a ChatF1 thread was moved to PressF1 and then one of my posts was removed because it was "off topic".

It does have to be said though that when you sign up to the PC World Forums you do agree ( presumably ) to this:-

"Fairfax Business Media has the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason and without notice or explanation. Fairfax Business Media reserves the right to ban or remove any member for any reason and without notice or explanation."

It used to be fun on various "off topic" subjects like fridges for example but threads can be closed at any time.

1116280 2010-07-05 15:34:00 no i havent. i like the way you worded this. things have gotten out of hand at pressf1. we can't even have opinions without being judged goodiesguy (15316)
1116281 2010-07-05 19:44:00 This post was mainly prompted by the fact that a ChatF1 thread was moved to PressF1 and then one of my posts was removed because it was "off topic".Surely you could see why that happened. I removed nearly 20 off-topic or argumentative posts from that thread - that is half of all that was posted. A new member asking for advice (and yes that was a technical question) ending up with all that going on in their thread. What a nice welcome to PressF1 message that was.

Your post was removed as well because it would have been left out of context seeing it was a reply to goodiesguy's 100% off topic post that had been removed. No other reason.

I don't get it. Everyone complains when people's threads get hijacked and people complain when posts are removed bring a stop to it.

1116282 2010-07-05 21:42:00 A thankless task, being a Moderator, and enforcing rules. There's always someone's toes you'll be stepping on Jen (and Chilling Silence).

Ignore the criticism, most Forum members appreciate the difficult (unpaid?) job you guys do.

1116284 2010-07-06 00:24:00 Sweep is just mad you deleted his post Jen, a post he upheld as probably the wisest in that thread.

A thankless job you indeed have, Jen. You're like the mum here! :D By saying that I think you know we all appreciate your work, whether or not we express our gratitude.
