Idiot judge decides that $15650 worth of fines can be traded for 240 hours of community services - and the idiot given this hand-out cannot be bothered to turn up, and is waiting to get on to the sickness benefit .

Quote:
Boyd, unemployed, also pleaded guilty to a charge of unnecessary exhibition of speed . He was not in a position to pay a fine after having $15,650 of outstanding fines exchanged for 240 hours' community work last year .

Boyd also pleaded guilty to breaching community work by failing to turn up . He had completed about seven hours .

Lawyer Bob Renshaw said community work was suitable as he was waiting to go on the sickness benefit .

Boyd was convicted and sentenced to 60 hours' community work for racing and 40 hours cumulative for the breach . Judge Fraser banned him from driving for six months .

Both men will have to pay the $50 offenders' levy which came into affect yesterday

That S is the world we live in .

There is a chap down here on some kind of benifit who demanded tyres for his 2 year old Merc . Oh and got them .

I am sure without much effort we could all think of something that proves that the world we live in is mad . :crying

1115391 2010-07-02 09:01:00 I posted on here about the expected revenue collected from one single speed camera and how unjust the way the activity is carried out .

Yet here we have a clown who already had nearly $16K of fines to his name who floated deliberatly the law again and gets 240 hours community service effectively defered because he is going on the Sickness Benefit .

Our legal system is farked up that you can get a infringement notice that turns into a fine incurring more costs that snowballs when someone who can not pay for the infringement in the first place finds themselves blacked as being a criminal . Not saying that is or is not the case here just pointing that out .

So lets see according to this judges maths thats $65 per hour wiped out to do community service for 1 hour . Wow I wish I was paid that per hour! But then given the average speeding fine is $80 then I reckon that 1hour 15 mins of community service is what should be handed out instead of financial penalties .

So lets see what counts as community service though? We have volunteers in St Johns and the Fire Service do you think that maybe they should be rewarded instead of the ones that get fines and issued community service?

Lots of ways to look at this though! If the fines were just through motoring offenses why label someone a criminal .

1115392 2010-07-02 09:20:00 Man... 240 hours is about a month's work... So that means community service is worth... $3693 a week. That's just over $192,000 per year. $65.2 an hour.

**** man, I'd do community service for that much! Shame on us for not making that much money.

Shoot the man, harvest his organs (after being tested for fattiness and diseases), shoot the judge and seize all his property. World will be a better place.

1115394 2010-07-02 10:43:00 So his "punishment" for dozens of driving offences is effectively paid employment at a generous hourly rate. Wonderful. george12 (7)
1115395 2010-07-02 11:51:00 If I owed that much, I'd jump at the chance to pay it off at $65.20/hr! Tax free! Makes a nice change from $13/hr.

And the ****wit can't even be bothered to turn up to it!

There are VERY few things I wouldn't do for 65$ an hour. He'll I'll a lot for 60$ an hour. Damn I'm a good bargain if someone wants to hire me! At least I always turn up to work.

I think your missing a few point here comaping it to an hourly rate.

I made a point that people do a community service in a voluntery capacity for nothing. Funny that working for below minimum wage in a roll that saves lives while putting your life at risk!

Secondly if the guy was working at $13 per hour could he have afforded the first fine? Probably not so then his view of the system was fark erm.

Cause and effect.

Final point as it was a motoring offense or two or three or what ever the problem in this country is lack of demerits being issued to in effect remove the right to drive. Instead we have a rack it on the slate system for fines for poor driving etc.

Ok may not solve the problem but this stupid situation of racking up fines could be nipped in the bud earlier.
