1164042 2010-12-22 10:54:00 Didnt say you were an idiot. Just trying to see what came up (which is obviously nothing, by the sounds of it). Was there a Vista 32 driver on the Via site? That would or should work. Or it could be too old, like you said. If you want to use the onboard sound, I could check it out with teamviewer. If you want. If the sound worked before, I cant see why it wont work now Speedy Gonzales (78)

I know you Never said i was an idiot, i just wanted to say that i wasn't an idiot, cos it made me feel better.

It's never worked.

The onboard realtek sound on my OLD mobo worked. I have never got the VIA onboard on my new mobo to work.

And it's easier for my to use my dads sound card, and also, his is 24 bit.

here's the page from the manual. its only the one on the right that you need. sorry for it not being the greatest scan, but it's still sharp and readable.
If I'm reading that paragraph on the on-board sound front audio connection correctly you cannot have output from the rear audio sockets at the same time as the front (if you remove the jumpers and connect your front audio leads, you'll get no sound from the rear). :2cents:

1164048 2010-12-22 12:03:00 On a better note. I'm amazed at how well Windows 7 runs. its soo much better than old xp pro.

I'm gonna google and see what i can do to tweak it for optimal results (legal stuff of course).

1164049 2010-12-22 19:15:00 I've just upgrade to windows 7 (woo hoo!)

Everything is fine, except my sound card.

I installed the driver from the original disk for my Genius Soundmaker 32x PCI sound card,

Thats why, it's not a Win7 driver. You need to go look if there is one. If not why not just use the onboard.? Not worth bothering with sound cards these days unless you want some special connector or something.

1164050 2010-12-22 19:26:00 I've just upgrade to windows 7 (woo hoo!)

Everything is fine, except my sound card.

I installed the driver from the original disk for my Genius Soundmaker 32x PCI sound card, but in device manager it says:

this device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. code 12

Could it be because the Sound card is quite old?
Also, are there windows 7 or vista drivers for it?

Or will i have to change my sound card.

The onboard is not plugged in on the motherboard as the motherboard manual is confusing for that bit.

So, any suggestions on how to get the sound card working?

Your PC has run out of IRQ and DMA address settings for somereason, had the same issue here yesterday after SP3 to an old P4 system. Go into BIOS and diable serial port, parallel port and anything you arent using.....still be okay after that!
