2010-12-22 10:25:00 | I notice that the ISO's for each of the x86 Win7 versions is the same: 2,176,408KB Stupid question time: Does this mean that the Product Key that is entered determines what version is installed?

2010-12-22 10:50:00 | It's the same with Vista. Everything is on the disc; it's just the key that determines things that you 'unlock'. | qazwsxokmijn (102) | |
2010-12-22 10:54:00 | Cheers - damn, just wasted 4GB of cap downloading two "different" Win7 versions, when I had already downloaded the ISO for Ultimate! Doh!

2010-12-22 20:05:00 | Can you legally download them? Yes . It's the same with Vista . Everything is on the disc; it's just the key that determines things that you 'unlock' . kind of correct -- if you put in a Professional key into a Home Pre DVD it wont work . The ei . cfg file on the DVD will dictate what key it will accept . Remove that file and it will then take all keys from the one DVD . Example of the ei . cfg file: [EditionID] Ultimate [Channel] Retail [VL] 0 That DVD would take a ultimate Key, But NOT any other version .

2010-12-22 20:50:00 | Thanks wainuitech - just checking the ei.cfg files in the ISO's I have already downloaded - they do appear 'locked' to a specific version, so maybe my 4GB wasn't wasted... | johcar (6283) | |
2010-12-22 21:43:00 | If you have a TechNet subscription, yes. It's sort of for 'members only', right?
