1116114 2010-07-05 07:06:00 We are trying to develop Multi touch tables using several different technologies. the one we seem to have a bit of difficulty obtaining relates to IR (infra red) Lasers with line generating lenses for a reasonable price. the wavelength needs to around 800nm. If anyone has any recommendations where we can purchase any IR lasers (coloured is ok but but IR is preferred). If anyone has any experience building MT tables any advice would be appreciated The Error Guy (14052)
1116115 2010-07-05 07:27:00 I assume you mean online and locally?
Doing advanced Google search -

site:.com +purchase +buy "IR Laser Diodes" "IR Laser"
pulls up a sponsored ad on R/H side which it seems is in NZ at Farnell NZ (nz.farnell.com/) so check their site.

But because it's a sponsored ad their site may be generic rather than for specifics

1116116 2010-07-05 07:50:00 Thanks kahawai, ill look into that and post back if they are any good. and yes I would prefer a local supplier but any reasonably prices international resellers would be taken into concideration The Error Guy (14052)
1116117 2010-07-05 07:55:00 Hmm, 1 laser line lense = $250 bit pricey The Error Guy (14052)
1116118 2010-07-05 07:57:00 When you say laser, do you mean an actual laser such as that in a CD drive or just a standard IR LED?

You should be able to find both at Farnell and RS-Components

Farnell is $15 shipping for anything under $85 (free if over)
RS-Components is free for NZ for anything (at the moment)

Other places like Digikey or Mouser may have a better range, but will cost $50 to ship to NZ for any orders under $200

1116119 2010-07-05 10:09:00 We have IR LED's but they are used differently to IR lasers. we require lasers similar to that out of CD/DVD drives but I seem to remember something about them not being suitable for LLP's. also it would be cheaper to buy a laser with a line lens on it rather than trash an old CD drive to get one of about 4 lasers and then buy 4 lenses The Error Guy (14052)
