1165140 2010-12-27 23:18:00 Hey all,
For some reason, I can't get onto www.google.com, or any Google.com site (such as Gmail, or tepunivillage.co.nz) on my computer. Other clients on our wifi (my iPod, the laptop, the Ideos, etc.) can no problem, and my computer can get onto google.co.nz, but not google.com

Anyone have any idea of what this could be? I'm on a Dlink DIR-615 wifi network, connected with a DWA-110 adapter, our ISP is Xnet, our modem a Dlink DSL-502T.

1165141 2010-12-27 23:57:00 Google has been redirecting to local country servers for several years now, so it is normal to get to google.co.nz from google.com.

If you want to get to google.com use this url:
google.com alternatively click on the google.com link below the google search box

1165142 2010-12-28 00:01:00 Its automatically redirecting to google NZ ... I can't even get onto .com

Don't think it's got anything to do with your network setup though ... try manually putting .com in as your homepage in whatever browser your using and see if it goes to .com or redirects to .nz

Duh .... Terry's on the money ... :D

1165143 2010-12-28 00:09:00 I'm having some problems in loading Google for the last couple of days. It's been very eratic. bk T (215)
1165144 2010-12-28 00:46:00 Possibly Google doing a major index update amongst it's servers (including their www2/www3 servers which redirect to Google com) for page rank for website/blog publishers. Many think it's due, since none since April 2010, often it's every 4 months.

They did this earlier this year for NZ Adsense publishers trying to login, had to redirect a few times over a week or so, until stabilized.

1165146 2011-01-04 19:15:00 No I couldn't get to Google.com using the link "Go to google.com" or any of the dependent sites. But my ISP advised me to upgrade my ADSL modem's firmware and this seems to have solved the issue. Thanks all, hope this helps anyone else. darthcarnate (14113)
1165147 2011-01-04 19:40:00 That seems like a very odd solution indeed... I'd think its more to do with DNS, either at your ISP's side or at Google's. Chilling_Silence (9)
1165148 2011-01-04 20:09:00 Was due to my modem not being able to handle the amount of traffic passing through from my phone, iPod, laptop and PC all at once apparently. darthcarnate (14113)
1165149 2011-01-05 00:20:00 Doubt it, the DIR-615 isn't top of the line, but it's still decent enough even on the original firmware to be able to handle WAY more than that, unless you're torrenting .. Chilling_Silence (9)
