2010-07-13 23:35:00 | Its complete bullshit, they hire people who hardly speak English and make tons of mistakes when typing in details. I was going to say pctek speaking good english would have been her undoing:lol:

2010-07-13 23:39:00 | I'm sorry to hear your experience. It would have been great to know that at least one help desk out there has someone as knowledgeable as you! | utopian201 (6245) | |

2010-07-14 02:32:00 | Went for a job as Helpdesk. I failed apparently as my "score" wasn't high enough. This was an intelligence test(next pattern in sequence etc -16 correct out of 18) and a typing speed test. I typed too slow. Always when I have done those, they tell me they want accuracy rather than speed so I did type slower than I can. Obviously technical ability isn't of interest at all. There certainly weren't any test questions relating to that at all. Sounds like they are playing a game, by getting people who apply for the job to do stupid and irrelevant tests. They probably get you to do them for their own amusement, and can use it as an excuse for mot hiring you if you don't get a high enough score. Another reason not to use them, and I dislike the company anyway. When I was with them, they ignored any email support questions, so I wonder why the typing test even applies if they don't reply to emails.

2010-07-14 03:54:00 | What irritates me is most of them don't even particularly want to be there. I actually like user support, even the grumpy ones. | pctek (84) | |

There is probably a law to prevent these employers getting their job seekers to perform stupid or demeaning tests. |

2010-07-14 04:53:00 | Personal opinion, Get rid of the little books that start, chapter 1 un plug all phone jack etc, run diagnostic check. blame customer equipment. hang up the phone, hire pctek and watch customer satisfaction increase. If they can't type fast who cares? I want my fault fixed not a typing marathon. If they know phonetics it helps, so many times I've rung a help desk and had to spell everything phonetically just so they can get the details right. tango hotel echo decimal echo romeo romeo oscar romeo..... it takes forever to even get close to getting the email right.

2010-07-15 01:38:00 | Did it ever occur to you pctek, or any of you for that matter that you interviewed badly? Or the assumption that you are the be all and end of helpdesk support may have worked against you in the interview? I find it laughable that you all claim to want to boycott Slingshot, based on the fact they said 'Thanks, but no thanks' to a forum poster whose having a whinge that they didn't meet the criteria of a helpdesk role they went for, and then make jokes about how the people who actually work on the Slingshot helpdesk are nothing but monkeys anyway? If you care to recall, you actually wanted to WORK for Slingshot, before being turned down....what does that say about you, if you think that those already working for the company are autonomous robots who are intellectually inferior to you? If you ask me, sounds like they made the right decision... Personality tests are conducted throughout recruitment to see how compatible you are or will be with the company's existing staff. I highly doubt that they would run through a test just for the fun of it or to make you jump through hoops. The fact that you would post your distain at being turned down for a role on a forum of all places for all and sundry to see says more than enough about your superiority complex and only serves to prove they made the right decision. Case in point.
