-13 like in Arrowtown the other night is a severe frost .

And yep, I've had that . Often . Down there .

Rule 1: After rinsing windscreen, wipe it with a towel or something to remove water .

Down South it will freeze back instantly .
Wipers aren't any use - they become glued to the windscreen .

Still shake my head at how some people don't get this - listened to a few of my co-workers the other day expressing surprise that the warm water they poured over their windscreens in the -4 frost we had had frozen up by the time they strolled inside to put the jug away . . . . :groan:

This stuff ( . co . nz/images_prods/124 . jpg" target="_blank">crc . co . nz) is the business if you have real problems .

1118433 2010-07-13 05:58:00 does the anti freeze window addon help? like that bottle of bugs or what .... Nomad (952)

I'm going to laugh when someone puts hot water on their windscreen and it shatters . had that happen to a beaker on the windowsill, it got so cold that when we put some warm water in it, it shattered

1118435 2010-07-13 07:21:00 My car doesn't tolerate frosts as well as other cars do - my lock always seems to freeze up even when everyone else just has a frozen windscreen. I have to pour a jug of hot water over it after I have poured warm water over the windscreen & door seals.

Happened a lot this winter :(

1118436 2010-07-13 07:24:00 I used to use that de-icer spray product years ago, works well, otherwise keep a squeegy in the car to thoroughly dry the windscreen after defrosting with water. sam m (517)
1118437 2010-07-13 07:40:00 I'm trying to get my head around the science in case the Insurance Company suggests that we are telling porkies, though I saw the clear windows with my own two eyes, depite being hauled out of bed at such an ungodly hour of a Sunday morning. Not to mention that my daughter is no idiot or airheaded female.

Cheers

its normal. even tho it doesn't get all that cold in auckland it happens most times. i get it all the time, its jut the water refreezing on the screen. normally the window wipers scrape it off before it to bad.

i think its probably just the water evaporating due to the wind (vehicle moving) freezing the water thats still on the screen. she probably just didn't use the wipers enough to remove most of the water.

1118438 2010-07-13 08:53:00 Happens down here quite often ... worst thing you can do is put the windscreen wipers / washer on ... just makes it worse ! SP8's (9836)
1118439 2010-07-13 10:01:00 When my screens were frozen under a inch or two of ice in the UK, I used to start the engine & direct air at the windscreen, then use warm water to clear it of ice + another lot of warm water to warm the glass. Dry the glass completely & it should be fine. Don't use de-icer, it freezes worse than water Phil B (648)

too much hot air blown onto the screen in a very cold enviroment will cause shattering too, very annoying when it happens at 100k+ in the hail wind and rain as it did to me once, not nice .

teaches you to wipe the screen and just heat the cab but . :)

1118441 2010-07-13 11:08:00 Dont use isopropyl, it has a tendency to catch fire. maybe a little too warm xD The Error Guy (14052)
