1164678 2010-12-25 07:36:00 I have to set up a satellite dish in Auckland to Optus D!.
The Elevation angle is stated to be 44.4 degrees. My own dish, which was set up by an expert, seems to be set at 18 degrees. Can anyone explain where this 44.4 degrees is measured to and from?
Any help gratefully received.

1164679 2010-12-25 07:38:00 Just look at other dishes nearby and see what they are set up as gary67 (56)

I've already looked at my own dish but I want to know the theory!

1164681 2010-12-25 08:29:00 where are you measuring the degrees from?
if its off the writing on the dish, it only meaning full IF the pole is perfectly straight.

1164682 2010-12-25 08:38:00 I could be wrong, but I think some dishes are asymmetric, so the receiving arm is not over what would appear to be the geometric centre of the dish, so measuring the angle between the receiver and the centre of the dish might not give the true inclination of the dish. 1164683 2010-12-25 08:57:00 most dishes used here are offset (asymmetric) so it never looks quite like the right angle. tweak'e (69)

This help?
You'll need one of these too.

I think this is the answer. the angle that the LNB is offset from the centre of the disc is subtracted from the 'offset angle' given, (44.4degrees in Auckland) so the dish is leant back at about 22 degrees.
Thanks for that, Arjay
