1164657 2010-12-25 06:09:00 Would it be worth upgrading to Windows 7?

I still have Windows XP SP3 but am beginning to realize that XP is getting past it.

1164660 2010-12-25 06:27:00 Should be fine with Win7. I take it 5001 of the BIOS is on it?? Since, it looks like you need this for that CPU. It'll probably support 64 bit as well. If you decide to install Win7 x64. Does this mobo have HDMI onboard?? Since there's a M2A-VM and M2A-VM HDMI Speedy Gonzales (78)
1164661 2010-12-25 06:40:00 I think it is just a M2A-VM motherboard QW. (15883)
1164662 2010-12-25 06:42:00 Thats cool. Doesnt matter if it has HDMI or not. Win7 will still work on it. But you may have to do a full / clean install (you'll have to, if you get 64 bit) Speedy Gonzales (78)
1164663 2010-12-25 07:18:00 If you only have 2GB there's not much point in getting 64-bit version, unless you plan on getting 4GB+ RAM later or need to run a 64-bit program.

In fact there is not much point in upgrading to Win7 yet, if XP does everything you need.

I only have Windows 7 to play the newer games which require DirectX10+, other than that, for my purposes it doesn't do anything that XP can't.

Eventually you may want to add another 2Gb of RAM but Win7 will be OK with what you have to start with.

I got SWMBO a new Win7 laptop a month ago and I do like it. I am upgrading my desktop next week (have the new mb, cpu, ram already) and was going to stick with XP but was advised by several PF1ers to go Win7 - then I read a few articles on Win7 and the choice to dump XP was easy.

Definitely worth the upgrade if you have the $$. Then there is the decision of 32 or 64 bit...
