2010-07-10 06:42:00 | It's so cheap for food! And I just went up the rd to the close by vege shop, not as cheap as some I have been going to, but I just urgently needed a cabbage..... Should have gone ages ago - it's round the back of another building so didn't realise it's in fact a large asian grocery as well. Could have spent all night grazing the shelves...... All kinds of fresh, frozen, jars, packets and so on. All the proper ingredients and lots of ready made yums as well. Must go there more often now.... Forgotten about that sort of thing having been lost in the dark ages down south for so long...........

2010-07-10 06:54:00 | Well near home (Otara/Manukau) now have too many countdowns, pak n' save, warehouses, fresh cheap vege shops, doctor's, wholesales, "mini" supermarkets, outdoor food markets, repco's, super cheap auto, fast foods, op shops, lighting, curtains, Bunnings, Mitre10, clothing shops, bars, chinese import food/goods shops, motels, parks, and so much more. Many new enclosed small to medium shopping malls have proliferated within eastern and south auckland. Downside is the associated heavy traffic, and full car parks at times. | kahawai chaser (3545) | |
2010-07-10 07:13:00 | According to Mrs T, who is such a canny shooper I'd swear she was from Scotland; Pak n Save is the cheapest by a wide margin for groceries, the rest are just also rans. For meat don't use the Supermarkets, better quality and lower prices are to be had by using local butcheries and at present she favours The Aussie Butcher, with the Mad Butcher as a backup but at lower quality. She is on first name terms with the local Aussie Butcher and he really looks after her. Fruit and veges are a no-no from the major chains, the local shops have better quality at much lower prices. She is not allowed to lift anything heavy so I go with her on most major shopping expeditions and I'm stunned by the price differentials. Sometimes she'll walk out of one shop and go to the next because she reckons the quality wasn't good that week or the price was too high and dammit, she is always right! Cheers Billy 8-{)

2010-07-10 10:00:00 | Cabbage can vary between $0.40 to $1.50 in Auckland, depending on the time of the year and the location of purchase. Best thing of all with cabbage is that it can provide me with a week's worth of vegetable at a very low cost!

2010-07-10 10:13:00 | The tomatoes up here are probably doing a bit better than the Southland ones at the moment. The ones in the porch are ok, but the outside ones are pretty sluggish. | R2x1 (4628) | |
