1458648 2019-03-02 05:38:00 Last year - 2018 - March, the 21st to be more concise --- I was mowing my lawn and running around in shirtsleeves .

This year it's 7 degrees BELOW zero with a windchill factor of minus 55F, and 'some' new snow is predicted .

FOR THE WHOLE OF NEXT WEEK!

This weather has 20 days left to shape up!

1458649 2019-03-02 06:14:00 Hmm well 23c today here in Hanmer Springs yet Thursday morning we had a -1c frost and the week before a Southerly blew in and deposited a smattering of snow on the mountains opposite. Snow has all gone again but tonight's views are attached, excuse the red temporary fencing that will go once the house is finished in a couple of months time.

1458650 2019-03-02 19:26:00 Well so brown down South! And I thought Napier was supposed to be the dry area.
It's patchy but we still have green grass almost everywhere.

10 degree mornings and 25 degree days lately. I love it. Just right.

We had had up to 37 degrees, not humid though which I don't miss at all.9403

This one is done, almost finished digging vege patch, planted grape (mainly to help shade the back deck) and a passionfruit.
Ripped out the horrible mess down back, planted 2 shrubs and 2 pongas in it and made the rest lawn.

Which has grown well and we are now mowing it.

1458651 2019-03-02 22:10:00 Its looking good piroska.

Only 2 days rain in 2 months here, slowly making our place into a permaculture. Have planted 3 apples, 2 plums, 3 peaches, a damson plum, a crab apple, 3 apricots.

Still to go in a hazelnut, 3 chestnuts (propogated by us), 2 oaks, another apricot and lots of berries (Raspberries, Gooseberries)

Wow, so much fruit!
We grow passionfruit cause it's so expensive.

Veges, capsicums same reason.
Do peas, but that's just to have raw fresh ones...not for dinner.

We do beans, a bit of corn, leeks, caulis, radishes, a couple of tomatoes -and a I make relish and passata out of the excess.
No greens, not worth it in summer....and ditto potatoes and onions, cheap enough.

1458653 2019-03-03 18:08:00 Still want to plant another 50 fruit trees at least and finally get the veges going. Idea is to trade with others for what we need rather than work to buy everything. Barter is tax free.

Oh and to make cider.

Doesn't compute, I struggle to conceive of such temperatures.

Started an 11, currently at 27 :) Sky is blue, wind is mild, it's just pleasant outside.

1458656 2019-03-04 09:33:00 In south Auckland/North Waikato it is dry and getting browner. Good for pulling weeds in unwatered areas, the roots have not much to hang on to. We had a very good crop of peacharines, tomatoes and fewer pears, apples were about average. There was some rot on the peacharines and pears but some great yields overall. The tomatoes will not stop! Starting to run out off bottles. Stock around the area seem OK, but I'm guessing feed is getting scarcer! Laggard (17509)

Our temps keep the socialists out.
