1458561 2019-02-28 02:59:00 Hi all,

I'm posting this in chat instead of PressF1 as it's more a curiosity until I can open the laptop to check.

My Laptop started BSODing a few days ago, at seemingly random times.
So I ran the Dell pre bios diagnostics, and it failed on memory. I forgot to take note of the code so without exiting I reran the tests. This time it passed.
I always thought once memory failed it stayed failed.

Waiting to get access to a screwdriver so I can open her up and reseat the RAM.

1458562 2019-02-28 03:08:00 Yes it can, BUT more than likely not how you expect. ;)

Meaning had problems before computer playing up every so often, then when running a memory test it fails, remove the memory clean out the dust from the socket ( even if it looks clean), put it back re-run the test - passes and problems gone.

1458563 2019-02-28 03:19:00 That's what I figured. It just really surprised me how it failed then passed the test without a restart and in a space of a minute the_bogan (9949)

But problems with poor connection or dirty contacts in the memory slot as Wainui mentioned seemed to be the most common issues by far.
Sometimes there's not even a need to clean anything as just the small scraping action from pulling them out and plugging them back in improves the contact.

If it has a harware failure somewhere in the RAM it could be intermittent but if that's the case I would expect it to get worse over time and become more consistent.

So yes, it can happen that way

You might get lucky.
Or it might keep randomly causing issues as per 2 of my PC's , requiring reseats every few month or more.
It may not even be the RAM itself (usually is) , could be other motherboard components associated with the RAM

A fail is a fail :-)
Try running a continuous RAM Test , overnight
memtest86 is an old program I used to use for this (CD Bootable), or something more up to date
